Just north of Alameda and Holly, our new spot shares a building with great locals High Point Creamery and Park Burger. 2017 has been a great year for Novo! In April Erich, Melissa and I headed off to Austin, TX to participate in the Qualifying round of the US Coffee Championships. We returned victorious with Erich qualifying for the Brewers Cup National Championships and myself qualifying for the United States Barista Competition Championships!Last week we headed out to Seattle, WA for the Global Coffee Expo where the USCC would be held. Erich had a great showing and missed the finals round of the Brewers Cup by less than 1 point, placing 7th overall. For the Barista Competition I brought the delicious Belekatu to serve to the judges and they loved it! I started ranked towards the bottom of the pack and ended up advancing through the first round, semi-finals round, and on to the top 6 finals round! I finished 6th overall in the United States after serving Belekatu on 3 separate occasions over the weekend, from an original pool of 120 competitors nationwide. This is the first time anyone representing Colorado has ever made it to the final round of the Barista Competition and it was a great way to showcase how great the coffee is here!The first round was exciting with 24 qualified baristas duking it out for one of 6 spots to advance to the semi-finals round. I came out on top with the highest score of the day and secured my spot in the semi-finals for day 2! The Semi-Finals are where the competition got really tough. Job title:Production RoasterSummary: The production roaster works with our ownership and sensory teams to develop and implement roast profiles on our systems. They manage the coffee production schedule and work with our FOH to ensure operations are running smoothly. They are one of the anchors of our operation and make sure the great coffees we buy are brought to their full potential through roasting. They are a self-motivated, detail oriented, passionate coffee and people person always striving to improve systems and performance of their department and the company as a whole. This is a full time position, generally M-F but occasional weekend and evening hours required. Salary depends on experience. The manager reports to the President (not that one) and is always looking for ways to grow and improve store and company performance. Novo's very own barista, Paul Johnson, from our Gilpin shop will be competing at The Big Western Barista Competition this weekend, October 8-11. Held by The Barista Guild of America and the Specialty Coffee Association of America, Big Western is one of three nationwide barista competitions. Paul will have a 15 minute performance where he will serve espresso, cappuccinos and a signature beverage to four judges. Paul will be using our Hachira coffee imported from Ninety Plus. If Paul makes it into the top six of the competition, he will have the chance to compete in the National Barista Championships with the hopes of going on to the worldwide championships.The event will be livestreamed here, and Paul competes at 3:15 p.m., Colorado time, on Thursday, October 8.Join us as we cheer on Paul!

Novo is on the hunt for a full time, logistically minded, coffee loving Delivery Driver/Account Manager at our Larimer Street headquarters. This position is responsible for delivering product and managing wholesale relationships along the Front Range.Key responsibilities: Weekly deliveries to restaurants, cafes and retail outlets. Spot training on multiple brewing methods including espresso, drip and pourover. Ensuring brewing and serving standards are met and equipment is properly maintained. Diagnosis of equipment service issues. Sales of new coffees and related products that add value to the customer.Job requirements: Clean driving record. Background in coffee.
