Although the first selection was from Shakisso, subsequent Nekisse coffees have been developed in Wellega and Sidama.

This is a new and very promising relationship for Novo. Luis Araujo’s coffee is some of the best in El Salvador – the Mundani is the first of many coffees from this farm that Novo will purchase for hopefully many years to come. The farm is located in the Cacahuatique mountain range near Ciudad Barrios and is surrounded by dense forest with abundant wildlife such as deer, lion monkeys and tepezcuintles (pacas). The Araujo Guerra family has been producing coffee for more than a century, but production took an obvious hit in the 1980’s during the war in El Salvador and the resulting social and economic problems. The family started to rebuild its land and farm in the 1990’s and was the first to introduce Pacamara coffee to El Salvador (since then the Pacamara variety of coffee has been spread to farms throughout El Salvador and Central America. Novo visits this farm 2-3 times per year and has launched a community support initiative in the nearby town of Ciudad Barrios.
